Welcome to our newly designed website which reflects changes within our company. Packetattack has moved from a Cisco-centric shop to a focused network and security shop. This means we support and cover Cisco but also many other brands and types of hardware on the network. In addition, we have focused on network security including both commercial and open source such as firewalls, intrusion detection, auditing tools and encryption. This choice reflects changes in the market place and in our mission. Within the site, you will still find the quality content that we have offered for over three years. The reviews, tutorials, opinions, pages of links and other helpful information is are still here.
We have added a fifth Mac to our office and we have a blog running now to document our switching from a daily PC to a daily Mac. We like the Mac for the security and Tiger works very well but we see a few items from the bad old days of the closed system Macs. On the other hand, items like Spotlight are just awsome tools to use. We also freely admit some of our "fun" is just the learning curve that comes with a new OS to learn. So follow along and if you know Macs, enjoy a laugh or two at our expense.
We are pleased to announce that Michael Sweeney has published a new book at our sister site, www.packetpress.net. The new book titled "Network Security Using Linux" is an introduction to using Linux to help secure your network with tools such as Snort, MySQL, GnuPG, SSH, SSL and syslog-ng just to name a few. Mike shows how to install each tool and set up the basic configuration to use the tool. Mike demos each tool on a varity of Linux distros such as Red Hat 9, Fedora Core 1 and 2, Slackware and SuSE. The book is self-published in conjunction with Lulu.com and was written using OpenOffice 1.3. You can get the free preview and order either the book or a PDF version here or at www.lulu.com/packetpress
